Location, Location, Location

That of course is the mantra when it comes to starting up a new business venture. However, we here from Seal Rock heading south to Florence are in the right location, location, location for a lot of action. Action of the good and fun kind!

For the size of our towns and villages there seems to be more action per capita here than anywhere else. I’m talking events, parades, festivals and gatherings of all kinds. Going back to May with Florence’s Rhododendron days, Beachcombers in June in Waldport, the 4th of July celebrations in Waldport, Yachats and Florence to the annual Lions Fish Fry which replaced the Lions Smelt Fry in Yachats, the Yachats Music Festival and a variety of other events we’ve had quick start on summer. With a bit of gas and the desire to travel one could have seen a lot of firework displays up and down the coast on different nights! That particularly appeals to me since I can’t seem to get enough of firework watching! Heck when I was a kid in Roseburg my favorite day of the year was when they had daredevil car and motorcycle shows at the Douglas County Fairground followed by a spectacular fireworks show! For me that was living large.

At any rate, this area of the coast has a full social calendar in the summer. Even the school kids on vacation are offered a multitude of activities to partake in in Waldport, Yachats and Florence. The volunteers needed seem to be plentiful and willing and the communities do their best to raise funding. I talk to visitors all the time who marvel at the amount of things that take place here and how welcome they are to join in. Often in the bigger cities it’s hard to mix in with the established programs but here people are welcome which is great especially with families with children and teens who can become bored quickly as you are surely aware of. I couldn’t wait to come to the beach when I was a kid and haven’t ever lost that enthusiasm even as an adult and half of the fun besides the great ocean and beach experiences is all the things that can be found to do in the places like we live in. You can sightsee, enjoy the local flavor, join in with local traditions like the Ladies Club Pie and Ice Cream Social in Yachats, hit the good eating spots, and if your timing is right you might even see a bald Eagle scouting the neighborhood or a group of Pelicans cursing in beautiful formation, or in Waldport a beach full of seals living the life of luxury and basking in the sun with full stomachs.

As Joe Walsh of the Eagles says in one of his great songs; “life’s been good to me” and if you’re here on this magical part of the Central Oregon Coast life going to be good to you if you let it!

Catch and partake in all the action in all the various locations!
