Thoughts of Spring.

Well thinking about Spring today seems kind of funny as the rain and wind blast sideways. Seems like winter decided to stick around for a bit longer!

The only Spring I’ve seen recently was a picture of a Spring day in a gardening magazine.

However, I’m not complaining compared to some of the Spring weather in other parts of the country; nope we’re just Oregon wet, wild and windy and soon it will become beautiful as all the flowers bloom, the greenery will flourish and the coast will be picturesque. So I’m optimistic despite some of the gloom and doom forecast by some, Spring is the time of new beginnings, the time to start making plans for summer, the time to kick off the winter doldrums and enjoy the longer days and the birds and wildlife that appear this time of year. Of course there is that Spring Cleaning concept that suddenly seems necessary when the sun shines through the windows revealing the dust bunnies and cobwebs that have enjoyed winter hibernation.

And the lawns that suddenly have growth spurts requiring a bit of attention. Or perhaps it’s that garage or shed that needs to be cleaned out or straightened up. Maybe it’s time to take care of some of the outside chores that were impossible to do in the constant downpours and wind storms.

There is always something to be done and it’s usually Spring when it gets done!

But Spring isn’t all work and no play. Spring is a great time to enjoy lots of sporting events like baseball, track, and soccer as a spectator or player. Plus there are other great outdoor activities like BBQing, picnicking, beachcombing, hiking, fishing and entertaining visitors who come to the coast to check it all out. Spring is also a good time to be optimistic especially if you are a sports fan. Major League Baseball is in full swing and it’s quite possible your favorite team is still in the pennant race. Football season will come in the Fall but in the Spring your favorite teams are undefeated and of course for kids, Spring is the beginning of the long awaited countdown to the end of the school year and for those lucky enough to get one, a summer vacation!

So forget the cold, damp and clammy winter past and look forward to a new beginning in the wonderful Oregon Springtime!!
