Spring Break is here!

Did you know Spring Break is also known as March Break, Study Week, or Reading Week in some parts of Canadaand a week long recess from studying in early spring in schools in the United States, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Germany and other counties?

I have my doubts about it being Study Week or Reading Week here in the United States but it could be true in other countries. I’m afraid here Spring Break means sun, fun, partying, and generally living it up. I know when I was going to school and Spring Break rolled around it was party time!

Since I’m from Oregon, Seaside was the place, in fact Seaside, sandwiched between Gearhart and Cannon Beach, seems to be stuck in the 50’s. But this is the town of your teens. It’s where many Oregonians went-with or without their parent’s knowledge- to cut loose at Spring Break. This is a town that holds a special place in many hearts and over the years has continued to be the spot to party! In some years it got so wild that trouble broke out but that’s been under control and it’s back to being a great spot to go.

Now this year Spring Break in Mexico, traditionally a real happening place to go, has been besieged with ominous warnings about serious trouble potentially happening. It’s mainly due to skirmishes between drug cartels and the possibility of being an innocent caught in the cross fire. It depends where you go, but in a statement released recently by NBC News it reported “No reported safety concerns in Cabo San Lucas a very popular spot. You have to make a distinction between the border incidents that are going on and the places like Playacar, Cancun, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, which are exceedingly safe.”

Sounds kind of like one would have to make some serious decisions about heading down there so I’m going to keep it simple and enjoy Spring Break right here in little old Yachats. The merchants are ready, the restaurants, coffee shops and the accommodations are great, the scenery spectacular and the neighboring towns offer top notch hospitality. I haven’t heard of any potential trouble but am excited to see the Spring Breakers in town having a Central Oregon coast Spring Break to remember!

So lets all enjoy and welcome our visiting guests…
