It's 6:30 in the morning, hot and the freeways are jammed in all directions. Tempers are rising with the heat and exhaust smoke and it looks like everyone with a cell phone is cussing someone out. Hand signals also flash anger.

I spot a momentary opening in the traffic and flying into it catch a glimpse of a highway patrolman on his motorcycle behind me. I feel a stab of panic but he blasts past his eye on someone going faster and driving crazier.

The phrase "another day in paradise" is frequently heard and anyone who has been in Yachats on a beautiful day will likely agree.
